About Bevan Skerratt , M.Ed., OACCPP - Montreal Musician
Bevan
Skerratt is:
the founding director of the Urban Aboriginal Medicine Fellowship,
a teacher at the Natural Health Consultants Institute,
a practicing Montreal psychotherapist,
a practicing Montreal counselor, and
a published author and singer/songwriter.
Originally from Saskatchewan of Cree and Celtic ancestry, Bevan
has been active in the field of holistic healing for over 30 years.
Bevan’s academic training includes:
a Bachelor of Arts degree from Concordia University in Applied
Social Sciences in Montreal, Quebec, and
a Master of Education degree in Counseling Psychology from McGill
University in Montreal, Quebec.
Bevan is also a trained practitioner of certain aboriginal healing traditions, as well as being an initiated carrier of the Southern Door Sweat Lodge.
Bevan has:
taught at Concordia University,
worked for many years at Waseskun Healing Lodge: a facility for male
aboriginal inmates of Corrections Canada, and
done intervention work in many Inuit and First Nations communities.
Bevan currently sits on and chairs committees in both the Anglican Church and the United Church which focus on creating healing partnerships with indigenous people. His monthly column “The Tipi and the Steeple” may be read in The Montreal Anglican.
Bevan is currently presenting the multimedia project “Beyond Cowboys and Indians” which incorporates his personal life experience, his music, and his thoughts about the challenges of our times.
